IT'S INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!!!

"Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!"

Saturday, August 11, 2007

"Come tomorrow I'll be gone...."

And so it begins. Tomorrow morning I will board a plane bound for another state and the beginning of a new adventure....

As always: bring it on.

(Prayer is appreciated.)

Expansion

Ok, if my last post was my life in a nut shell, then think of this as my life in a coconut shell. Still extremely condensed and compact, yet slightly bigger than a normal nut shell. (And by the opening line y'all should know that you're in trouble because Kait is tired, but posting anyway.)

  • Nationals

    One Word: Humid

Details: Nationals was definitely different this year. I had three rounds on Monday... and then had no competition until Thursday afternoon. But that didn't really seem to dampen the experience any. God greatly blessed Modesto Debate and Modesto Speech at this tournament. But most of y'all already knew that. So on to the other stuff.

"Up Is Down" became the official theme song of people who rode in "Tzy" (our rental car.) We had the CD playing whenever we drove anywhere.

Texas thunderstorms are incredible. Huge drops of rain, lots of thunder and lightning, a few flash floods, a funnel cloud, and an Extemp mom who was prepared with hairdryers for anyone who got caught in a downpour and deeded their suits dried before their rounds.

Hanging out in the Modesto dorm, playing frisbee in the rain, getting carried by Bethany, the Frog, swinging on the porch, small children with southern accents, sticky notes filled with Piano Man lyrics, applauding someone refusing government aid, pool time, the importance of Dr.Pepper, Russel, secret spy missions and conversations with Jossiah, and the great time that can only be achieved at an out of state tournament....

Oh yeah... and having the box inspected. For our protection, of course.

  • Operation Vacuum Cleaner/Operation Redecoration

    One Word: Overwhelming

Details: I'm working on redoing my room. This involves taking everything (dresser, desk, bookshelves, closet, storage, etc.) and dumping it into a huge pile that takes up my entire room and then piecing it back together in a more orderly fashion. And of course, hopefully, doing some rearranging, refinishing some furniture, and repainting.

  • Party Time

    One Word: Invaluable

Details: Hanging out, Dr. Pepper, food, music, hammock, rope burn, tire swing, dizziness, trampoline, swimming, dancing, piano, friends, awesomeness.

I had been missing everyone incredibly much. I needed to spend time with you again before we went our separate ways for the summer. It was incredible, and served to remind me just how invaluable friends really are. Even if you did threaten to or tried to throw me in the pool and or dunked me. I still had fun.

And few things can beat a tire swing.

  • Coast

    One Word: Excited

Details: Tomorrow I leave for vacation with my family. I'm really looking forward to it, especially since I'll be able to see Tyler and Kyle while we're there. I should be back in about a week and I'll let y'all know how it was then. That is, if I feel like it.

(Anyone notice how these section are getting shorter?)

  • Looking Ahead

    One Word: Indescribable

Details: All I can say is thank you, both to the Lord and to all those who have been supportive and encouraging with prayers and thoughts. God gives generous blessings and my future is falling into place. I know that it'll be a long, hard road. But with continued love and prayer, if this truly is His will for my life, He will see me safely through.

And that, my friends, is a small window into my life.

With confined spaces, limits of time and imagination, and my own lack of ability to adequately describe things, it shall have to suffice any curiosity that you may have had as to what I've been up to lately. If you really want to talk, you know how to find me. (Although I this week may be a bit more difficult.)

The End.

Life in a nut shell.

Nationals is over. My applications are in the mail. Operation Vacuum Cleaner is underway. We're going to the coast next week. Then begins Operation Redecoration.

I'll post a little more in depth sometime.

Sunday, May 13, 2007

Well, it's done. I guess that one statement doesn't really tell you a lot - there have been several changes in my world recently. Simply saying "it's done" could be in reference to many things. But this time, it means that my older brother is now married.

It was a beautiful wedding, lots of family and friends, lots of chasing Tyler around the church, and lots of stuff to clean up. But as always, it was all worth it.

And I never quite realized the effect that waltzing with my two year old nephew had until yesterday. Music began to play at the reception so Tyler climbed down from his chair, came up to me holding his hands out and asked: "dance?"

Goodbye for now,
-Kait
